As college students return to campus this month, many of them will be opening a bank account for the first time. To help students find the right bank and avoid overdraft charges, ATM fees and other tricks and traps, OSPIRG released a new resource, “Finding the Best Bank for Your Buck on Campus.”

“College students can easily suffer from unexpected fees and hidden service charges, which is why our tips can help to alert them to common pitfalls and help them be smart consumers,” said Celeste Meiffren, OSPIRG’s Consumer and Taxpayer Advocate. “Students deserve straightforward guidelines for their financial security.”

OSPIRG’s tips also provide students with information on how to seek help if they have a complaint about their banking services.

“When I first came to college, I could have used tips like these to help find a bank,” said University of Oregon senior, Hannah Picknell.
